Wellington Weekend

Wellington was one of the last few things that is still left on my bucket list for New Zealand, that’s why me and my friend decided to fly to Welly over the weekend. Our journey started on Saturday morning at around 4 am because our flight was departing at 6 am and it both takes us a while to get to the airport. After a short and enjoyable flight to Wellington, we firstly had breakfast at the airport because we didn’t have time to eat something in the morning.
After that we decided to head to the city center first and even though we had difficulties to find the right bus, we made it to the city after a while. Our first stop for the day was the famous museum of New Zealand, also known as the Te Papa museum that is located close to the waterfront in Wellington. We spent over 2 hours in the museum and learned a lot about wars where New Zealand was involved, the Maori culture and in general about the history of New Zealand. Especially the part about the war history touched me because it emphasized the living circumstances during the war and all the causalities that New Zealand suffered from.
After our museum visit we did a short lunch break before we headed to the Mount Victoria that is right in the middle of the city. The Mount Victoria offers you a 360* view over Wellington and it was absolutely amazing, even though the hike on top of the summit was quite tough! After we enjoyed the view for a while and did a small photo session, we walked down to the CBD again and checked in to our lovely hostel. We shared our room with 4 other girls that were all from England.
After a short rest our last destination for the day was the famous Cable Car in Wellington that is located directly in the middle of the city. As we arrived there we already saw that the Cable Car station was super crowded for this reason we had to wait for more than 30 min until we were able to catch a ride with the Cable Car! The view that the Cable Car offered was stunning and it was such a nice feeling sitting inside of it. The Cable Car brought us to the Botanic Gardens of Wellington where we walked through for an hour and enjoyed the beautiful flowers and the rose garden.
After that we headed home slowly, but before that we stopped at the grocery store to get ourselves something for dinner. As usual we had pasta and after that we were able to enjoy free cake that was offered by our hostel! In the evening we walked to the waterfront again to enjoy the view over the harbour of Wellington by night.
On the next day we only had half of the day available because our flight to Auckland was already departing in the afternoon, for this reason we only enjoyed breakfast in one of the lovely cafes in Wellington and strolled through the famous Cuba Street that is comparable with the Queen Street in Auckland. In the afternoon our flight departed to Auckland and we nearly missed it because the bus that brought us there was delayed.
All in all, it was definitely an amazing experience to visit the beautiful capital of New Zealand and I wish I could have stayed there for a longer time!
